Garbage is collected weekly on the same day each week for your address, through the Village's contracted hauler, Waste Management.

Pickup day and set-out time

• Set your garbage cart at the roadside by 5:30 AM on your scheduled day.
• Use the official route map to confirm your weekly pickup day.
• If your street shows multiple colors on the map, your pickup day depends on which side of the street you're on — use the color for your side.

What will be collected

• Garbage must be in the Waste Management–provided garbage cart.
• Extra bags or containers not provided by Waste Management are not collected — they may be left and tagged.
• No loose trash will be collected.

Cart placement for reliable pickup

• Place the cart at the curb, alley, or shoulder.
• Set the cart with the lid opening facing the street, and keep the lid closed.
• Leave 3 feet of space from other carts, parked cars, mailboxes, and obstacles.
• Don't place extra items next to the cart — pickup is automated, and items beside the cart will not be collected.

Holiday delays

Waste Management does not collect on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day. If one of these holidays falls on a weekday, collection is delayed one day for the rest of that week. If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there is no delay.

Missed pickup — how to report it

• Missed pickup reporting is handled by Waste Management.
• The report link appears under the "Next Pickup" section after 6:00 PM on your service day and stays available for 72 hours.
• Missed pickups can't be scheduled if your cart wasn't out or was blocked at the time of service.

Bulk items

Furniture, carpet rolls, and other oversized items don't fit in the cart — check the Village Bulk Trash page for current requirements, scheduling options, and annual event details.

Recycling is collected every other week, typically on the same weekday as your garbage pickup. Your address is assigned to Week 1 (Red) or Week 2 (Blue).

Pickup week and set-out time

• Use the recycling calendar to confirm which dates are collected for your color.

• Set the cart with the lid opening facing the street, and keep the lid fully closed — don't overload so it can't shut.
• Leave about 3 feet of space from other carts, parked cars, mailboxes, and obstacles.
• Don't place extra items beside the cart — they typically aren't collected.

What to recycle, what to keep out

• Commonly accepted: cardboard and paper, paperboard, metal cans, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers.
• Keep out: food and liquids, plastic bags and film, foam items, clothing and textiles, batteries, hazardous waste, yard waste.

Keep recyclables clean and loose in the cart — contaminated loads are a common reason for problems.

Holiday delays

Recycling follows the same holiday delay rule as garbage — see the holiday list above. If a listed holiday falls on a weekday, collection is delayed one day for the rest of the week; weekend holidays cause no delay.

Missed pickup

Menomonee Falls has three separate programs for yard debris — year-round drop-off, spring brush pickup, and fall leaf collection. Using the right one avoids missed pickups, fines, or extra fees. By state law, yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves, and tree branches cannot go in the trash.

Yard waste drop-off (year-round)

• Menomonee Falls residents use the Orchard Ridge Drop-Off Facility at N96W13073 County Line Road, open to residents year-round. Facility phone: 262-253-8620.
• Use a free Village Yard Waste Permit for up to 35 drop-offs per season (April–December), one visit per day — the attendant marks your permit each visit. Permits are mailed to property owners in early spring.
• After 35 visits, or without a permit, you'll be charged the posted per-pound rate ($0.015/lb, $3 minimum load charge).
• Payment at the facility is credit card only — no cash or checks.
• If you lost your permit or never received one, bring a valid driver's license or a utility bill showing your Menomonee Falls address to Village Hall for a replacement.
• Contractors cannot use your resident permit — if you hire a contractor to haul yard waste, they're required to pay the separate yard waste business fee.

Spring brush pickup (one annual curbside collection)

• Brush must be out by the 2nd Sunday in May — crews then collect it once, moving through the entire Village starting the following Monday.
• Accepted: branches up to 6 inches in diameter, cut to 4-foot lengths.
• Place brush on the terrace between the curb and sidewalk (or along the street edge where there's no curb), parallel to the road — not in the street.
• Not accepted: yard waste, leaves, grass clippings, garden debris, stumps, roots, shrubs with root balls, or brush in containers.
• Brush put out after the deadline is not collected.

Fall leaf collection (leaves only)

• Runs seasonally, typically October through late November, with a set-out deadline of the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
• Provided only on streets with concrete curb, gutter, and storm sewer systems — the program exists to keep leaves out of storm drains.
• Leaves only — no brush, yard waste, or debris. If brush or debris is mixed into a leaf pile, the Village will give notice to remove it within 72 hours; failure to do so can be a municipal code violation and may result in a fine.
• The Village typically posts a daily progress map during leaf season so residents can track when crews are in their area.
